What is Otoplasty?
Otoplasty is a procedure that corrects ear shape, size, and position to create a more proportionate appearance. Double board-certified surgeon Dr. Daraei reshapes the supporting cartilage for individuals with protruding ears to position the ears closer to the head. The incisions are typically placed behind the ears within the natural skin crease to minimize visible scarring. If the middle third of the ear requires adjustment or ear reduction, an external incision on the front of the ear may be necessary.
Candidates for Otoplasty
Ideal candidates for otoplasty include individuals with protruding, asymmetrical, or overly large ears who wish to refine their ear shape. This procedure is commonly performed on children, teenagers, and adults who are in good health and have realistic expectations. Children’s ears must be fully developed, typically occurring around 5 years old. During a consultation with Dr. Daraei, he will evaluate your concerns and determine the best approach to achieve your desired results.

Otoplasty Procedure
Otoplasty is typically an outpatient procedure that takes approximately two to three hours to complete. General anesthesia is commonly used for children, while adults and young adults may receive local anesthesia with oral sedation. The procedure involves reshaping the ear cartilage, removing excess tissue if necessary, and securing the new ear position with sutures. Dr. Daraei ensures that the incisions are well-hidden to provide a natural-looking appearance.
Otoplasty Recovery
Recovery from otoplasty is generally well-tolerated, with mild swelling and discomfort expected for the first few days. Patients should follow post-procedure care instructions, including wearing a protective headband to support the new ear position and avoiding pressure on the ears. Most individuals can return to normal activities within a week, with final results becoming more apparent as healing progresses.
Otoplasty Results
Otoplasty provides a permanent solution for enhancing ear shape, size, and position. Patients achieve a more balanced and proportionate facial appearance, with results improving as healing progresses. The refined and natural-looking results enhance self-confidence and eliminate concerns about prominent or asymmetrical ears. Otoplasty results are permanent, allowing enhanced confidence for years to come.
