What is Deep Neck Contouring?

Deep neck contouring is a procedure that targets excess fat, loose skin, and muscle laxity in the neck to create a youthful appearance. This technique addresses concerns such as a double chin, poorly defined jawline, or neck fullness that may not improve with weight loss alone. By removing fat and tightening the deeper structures of the neck, this procedure delivers long-lasting improvements in neck contours.

Candidates for Deep Neck Contouring

Ideal candidates for deep neck contouring are individuals who experience submental fullness or lack of definition in the neck and jawline. This procedure is ideal for those in their twenties to forties who have good skin elasticity but struggle with stubborn fat or weak muscle tone. Patients in their fifties or older with significant skin laxity may benefit from additional procedures, such as a lower facelift or neck lift, for optimal results. A consultation with Dr. Daraei will determine whether deep neck contouring is right for your aesthetic goals.

Deep Neck Contouring Procedure

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s needs. Small incisions are placed under the chin or behind the ears to access and sculpt the neck structures. Dr. Daraei removes excess fat using liposuction, refines deep neck muscles, and tightens tissues to enhance definition. In some cases, platysmaplasty (neck muscle tightening) may be performed to improve your neck contours and support long-term results. The incisions are carefully closed to minimize scarring.

Deep Neck Contouring Recovery

Recovery from deep neck contouring is mild, with most patients returning to daily activities within one to two weeks. Swelling and bruising are common in the first few days but gradually subside. Dr. Daraei provides detailed post-operative instructions to ensure optimal healing and long-lasting results. Patients are advised to wear a supportive chin strap for the first week to aid in recovery and maintain the newly contoured neck shape.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is deep neck contouring different from neck liposuction?

While neck liposuction focuses on removing superficial fat that sits just below the skin, deep neck contouring targets multiple layers of tissue that sit below the skin of under the chin and neck. This is done through a single incision under the chin. The layers addressed include the platysma muscle, which can become weak and needs to be tightened, fat that sits underneath the muscle, as well as supportive structures like glands and smaller muscles. These structures represent excess volume that needs to be reduced in order to achieve better neck contour. Deep neck contouring is often more effective for patients with significant neck fullness or poor definition that cannot be corrected with liposuction alone.

Is deep neck contouring usually combined with other procedures?

Deep neck contouring is frequently performed in conjunction with other procedures, most commonly with chin augmentation, face surgery, eyelid surgery, and rhinoplasty. Your surgeon will recommend the best approach for you based on your anatomy and aesthetic goals.

What type of anesthesia is used for deep neck contouring?

Deep neck contouring is typically performed under general anesthesia to ensure patient comfort and allow for precise surgical work. In some cases, it may be combined with other facial procedures during the same surgical session.

Will deep neck contouring leave visible scars?

Incisions for deep neck contouring are strategically placed in natural creases under the chin to minimize visibility. Once healed, scars typically fade well and are difficult to notice.

How long does a deep neck contouring procedure take?

The procedure usually takes between one and two hours, depending on the case and whether it is combined with other facial procedures. Your surgeon will provide a more precise timeframe during your consultation.

Can deep neck contouring address neck bands or a “turkey neck” appearance?

Deep neck contouring can improve neck banding and laxity by tightening deeper muscle structures and removing excess fat. However, it is important to note whether there is additional excess skin as well. If there is excess skin, then a comprehensive deep plane neck lift will need to be performed. This is different than deep neck contouring. Deep plane neck lifts require incisions behind the ears to remove any excess skin. In deep neck contouring alone, there is no removal of skin and the skin is allowed to “snap back” into place.

When will I see the final results?

While some improvement is visible shortly after surgery, final results develop gradually as swelling subsides. Most patients see their refined neck and jawline contours within three to six months.

“Would do it Again!”

Dr. Paul Daraei performed blepharoplasty on both my eyes. He removed the very pronounced bags from under my eyes and removed tissue from my upper eyelids that made it look like I did not have eyebags, when my eyes were open. Let me say this is the best thing I have done for my appearance and would do it again!

“I never felt rushed”

During the consultation all my questions were answered and Dr.
Daraei suggested the tissue removal from my eyelids. He mentioned the slightly swollen look that I thought was a sinus condition. When he showed me how much of my eyelid was hidden, l was amazed. He then took the time to explain the procedures I might want and answered every question I had. At no time did he make me feel pressured or rushed or that he had somewhere else to go.

“I love the results”

Dr. Daraei was initially recommended to me by a friend. I was particularly picky about who I wanted to do my rhinoplasty because I have ethnic features and I've also heard of people needing more expensive repeat procedures to fix their first rhinoplasty.
He has made the experience very smooth by being thorough, reassuring, and patient. I am about a year post op and I love the results, can't recommend him enough!

“Dr. Daraei is the best doctor”

If you're interested in rhinoplasty, Dr. Daraei is the best doctor to go to! I came to him with a deviated nose and severe breathing issues.
Now, only a month out of surgery, my breathing is amazing and my nose looks beautiful! I cannot say enough amazing things about Dr. Daraei and his work!!

“Absolutely no Judgment”

This was my first foray into the world of plastic surgery. While I try to keep myself in shape, the condition around my eyes made me look old and tired. Of course, I was nervous when I met with Dr. Daraei and his staff for the consultation. Everyone was very nice and there was absolutely no judgment projected toward me by any of the staff.
In fact, the entire staff and Dr. Daraei seemed genuinely enthusiastic about helping me feel better about my appearance.
